Men: Think zinc!
Just a few milligrams of this mineral is needed on a daily basis by males (and females) for optimal health. If you’re not getting enough, it can lead to an array of health complaints, such as:
- poor sense of smell
- poor sense of taste
- poor wound healing
- poor eyesight
- poor resistance to infections
- low fertility
- low libido
- white spots on fingernails
- prostate problems* (men only)
- urinary difficulties* (men only)
- mood disorders, such as anxiety
- eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
Gentlemen, here you’ll read my most recent article on zinc’s role in male sexual health.
Ladies: We need zinc, too! Let’s make sure we support our men by setting a good example by eating foods rich in zinc:
- nuts and seeds (all but peanuts)
- oysters and clams * (please eat on an occasional basis only due to heavy metal content)
- eggs
- wheat germ (if you can tolerate wheat)
If you have allergies or intolerances to any of these foods, you definitely want to consider a zinc supplement like zinc glycinate for optimal absorption. Make sure you take your zinc with food, never on an empty stomach.
How long will it take to see improvement?
Like many mineral imbalances, it will take time to correct your zinc levels and the health complaints that result from deficiency. Be patient, be consistent, and be pro-active!
